Today I have a special post from Susan White with Rad Tech Schools. Susan has written a great article focusing on some fitness tips for you ladies over 35, because as we get older ladies it become even more important to take care of our bodies through diet and exercise. Here is Susan’s article:
Want to know a secret? Well, you can actually burn extra calories every day without even breaking a sweat. It’s true, however, you won’t have the same calorie burn as getting in a good workout or eating a super clean diet, but when it comes to weight loss every little bit counts even the small things.
There are lots of little changes you can make to your daily routine to help drop pounds quicker and get a slim body. Really! Here are 10 of those ways:
1. Wear a pedometer. Having to work toward a certain number of steps by the end of the day is a great way to be more active. I’ve had clients who come near to the end of the day and haven’t reached their goal so they end up doing laps around the house. True story! A good goal is 10,000 steps per day, so gradually start working up to that and notice how quickly you slim down.
2. Eat breakfast. Getting up and eating a good meal gets your metabolism going so that your body starts burning fat, rather than storing it because you are starving and haven’t eaten in so long. But be sure to start with a healthy breakfast. One of my favorites is oatmeal with berries and scrambled eggs.Read the rest of 10 Ways to Burn Extra Calories Without Even Breaking a Sweat!
I often get emails asking me how to lose 10 pounds in a week. Chances are you have a beach vacation, high school reunion, or hot date coming up next week and you want to look mega foxy.
First, let me ask you, why the heck did you wait so long?!
Actually, I’m surprised that people still even consider this to be an option! I blame it on all that confusing advertising from fat burner and diet companies that want to lead people to believe that this kind of quick weight loss can be done, and in a healthy way!
But sorry, I’m here to tell you that losing 10 pounds in a week is just not realistic or healthy, and even if you did lose 10 lbs in a week it’s not going to be purely from fat. And if you did lose 10 lbs in a week chances are you lost some muscle mass and now have slowed down your metabolism. What a nightmare!
So scratch the idea of finding out how to lose 10 pounds in a week and instead focus on maximizing the time you have to look as good as you can by the end of the week! Don’t give up hope yet because there are some changes you can make to look leaner and even lose 1-2 pounds of fat.
But before I give you the hot juicy details, let’s look at the reality of losing 10 pounds in a week a little more closely.
I watched this video the other day and it really inspired me! There are many kinds of success. They can be business or personal. I’m constantly talking about finding success in fitness (reaching your goals).
Are you tired of being skinny, in shape, and fit? Do you want to get fat really fast? I know it must be real irritating having so much energy, getting compliments all the time about how good you look, rarely ever getting sick, and feeling great every single day. So I have compiled a list of the top 15 ways to get fat really fast, you know, just in case…
Start by eating really bad:
Eat at fast food restaurants as often as possible. Great places to choose from are McDonald’s, Burger King, and Taco Bell. Always supersize.
If you want something more fancy go to Chili’s and order this for dinner:
Appetizer Trio (eating only half as there will probably be someone with you) = 966 calories
Jalapeno Smokehouse Burger = 2130 calories
Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie Dessert = 1290
Total calories consumed = 4386 calories
Total fat gained on your body = 1.25 pounds
Drink lots of alcohol. Consume at least a 12 pack of beer or 5 Margaritas on a daily basis. You could gain around a half a pound every day.
4. Consume 7 cans of soda a day for a week straight. You’ll end consuming about 7000 calories which equals 2 pounds.
Go on some crazy, calorie restricting diet for a few weeks and then start eating your regular diet. That’s a surefire way to slow your metabolism down and cause you to binge on junk food since it’s too hard to stick to the ridiculous diet anyhow. Also, your energy level will be so low you won’t want to do anything.
Come home in a bad mood every night and consume a pint of Ben and Jerry’s to wash away your suffering. At an average of 1200 calories in each pint, simply consuming 3 of these could add an extra pound to those shapely hips and thighs.
7. Complain about how much it costs to eat healthy while filing your cart with Ribeye steaks, Premium Ice Cream, Bags of Potato Chips, Beer, and Cigarettes.
Go to the movies often, but don’t just watch the movies. Be sure to gobble down the following:
1 large popcorn with butter = 960 calories
1 Large soda = 310 calories
An 8 oz bag of Reeses Pieces = 1160 calories
Total calories consumed = 2430 calories
Total fat gained on your body = .70 pounds
Gorge yourself at the local buffet. Pile up your plate with fried chicken, gravy, and anything covered with butter. Make sure your stomach hurts so bad it’s hard to walk and you must unbutton your pants before leaving. And whatever you do DON’T skip dessert. I don’t care if you’re full.
Limit exercise and movement by following these proven techniques:
10. Take your kids, your sisters kids, or even your neighbors kids to the park so they can run around while you sit on a bench and do absolutely nothing.
11. Avoid exercise like the plague and instead watch 3 hours of TV every night while mindlessly munching on potato chips and chocolate candy.
Spend 10 minutes driving around a crowded parking lot waiting for that front row parking spot instead of spending 5 minutes walking from the back of the parking lot where there are at least 100 open spots.
Wear really uncomfortable shoes everywhere you go including the office, school, and running errands so that you can be sure to avoid walking at all costs so your feet don’t end up hurting.
14. Sit on the computer all day and try to get up only when necessary such as a potty break or to grab a fatty or sugary snack. Yes, read all about how to get fit on my blog and learn different exercises, but do not implement anything you learn.
15. Limit lifting of any sort as much as possible, not just weights, but lifting boxes, kids, or anything that weighs over a half a pound. The less muscle you have the more fat you can gain when your metabolism starts slowing down.
16. If your job for any reason requires activity ask to be transferred to a desk job or get a new job.
Make sure to get little to no sleep. Definitely, less than 5 hours is ideal. This will mess up your hormones, throwing your body and metabolism out of whack so your brain instead signals your body to store fat.
So there you have it! The top ways to get fat really fast.
Are you looking forward to putting on your swimsuit this summer season? Or are you dreading it because of all the fat you’ve accumulated on your midsection, butt, or thighs and would rather die than be caught in a bikini? Well if the later part sounds more like you then it may be time to get your butt in gear and start shedding those unwanted pounds and toning that body so you can look great in that tiny bikini. A few small changes can go a long way in transforming your body. So follow these tips and learn how to get a bikini body fast.
Cut out the junk. Ok if you really want to look good this summer you are going to have to make some sacrifices and give up all the stuff that is just making you fat. Really, just do and trust me you will like the results.
This means giving up the sodas, cookies, chocolaty desserts, fried foods, chips, beer, mixed drinks, and all those foods and beverages with empty calories. Yes, you know what I’m talking about, but sorry these are just adding to your waistline.
Just try it for a few weeks and notice not only how slim you feel but how much more energy you will have. And trust me your taste buds will change and it won’t seem so bad to miss out on these things. Replace these foods with healthy summer fruits and veggies, and instead reserve your treats for a cheat meal once a week.
Kick some butt. If you’re already working out that’s excellent! If not start now. They key here is to do more than you are already doing. This may mean you need to up your cardio by doing it more often, a bit longer, or more intensely. Cardio will burn those extra calories, helping you to lean up and burn fat.
And don’t skimp on the weight training, especially for those abs, thighs, and arms! Working those muscles will give you that toned appearance and shapely legs, buns, and more.
Make sure to be constantly pushing yourself harder every time you work out to so you can burn maximum calories in less time. No weenie workouts here!
Eat more often including breakfast. A great way to rev up your metabolism is to eat every 3-4 hours and avoid letting yourself get hungry. Waiting too long to eat can cause your body to store fat and even makes you crave bad, bad foods. So just don’t go there.
Have snacks handy, plan your meals ahead of time even if this means packing a lunch, and heck even set a timer as a reminder if you need to. And yes, this includes breakfast. Start your day off right and from there your goal is to avoid letting yourself go past that 4 hour mark without eating a small meal of 300-350 calories.
So follow these 3 great tips to start burning fat and boosting that metabolism so you can get a bikini body fast this summer season and look great in next to nothing!

Obesity among children is on the rise, so what is Willowbrook Elementary in Oak Ridge doing about it? A lot!!
Oak Ridge Coordinated School Health sought out sponsors to have fitness equipment donated to the schools so kids could not only learn but exercise too! The program is designed to get kids moving so they not only stay healthy but it also helps them to concentrate better and do better in school.
Check it out the WBIR clip here:
And the article in the Knoxville News Sentinel here:
I think it’s great that the Oak Ridge Coordinated School Health is making efforts to implement fitness into the school day. As gym programs get cut out of schools, there needs to be a way to incorporate fitness into other learning activities so kids are getting activity and learning lifelong healthy habits.
What is your school doing? What are you doing at home with your kids to help them live healthier? Let me know it the comment section below!
I had the pleasure of meeting season 7’s Biggest Loser contestant Tara Costa over the weekend at the Knoxville Healthy Living Expo. It’s always great to meet someone that has been successful in transforming their body and life. What better way to learn how to lose weight and lead a healthier lifestyle than someone who has already done it, and I was able to pick up some great tips for my readers (hey that’s you!) and my clients.
Tara gave a great presentation on healthy eating, where we all got to try some healthy, but tasty, pizza and nachos. The key is to still eat the things you love just make some changes so they are a bit healthier. For instance, using a whole grain pita as your pizza crust, lowfat cheese, and tons of veggies you can cut out hundreds of calories in your pizza and you are getting all kinds of healthy protein, nutrients, and fiber!
What other great tips did Tara share?
Divide your snacks up into 100-150 calorie snack bags. These are great for on the go and will keep you from overeating. How many times have you grabbed a bag of chips and ate 2, 3, or even more servings? Yeah that can be a lot of calories for a snack and just add onto the waistline.
Always have snacks with you! Having food with you on the go will keep you from stopping for fast food, eating junk, or from skipping meals. You can throw fruit, veggies, nuts, or other quick snacks in your purse or bag so they are always there with you ready to be eaten.
This one I didn’t know and it sounds super tasty. You can use bananas in recipes instead of oil to cut out a lot of calories! This is great in muffins or pancakes. I’ll have to give it a try next time. Sounds tasty!
So remember you can still enjoy your food and eat healthy too. And although you all can’t go on the Biggest Loser, you can start taking steps at home to eat healthy foods and reach those weight loss goals. And as Tara Costa, “Your taste buds do change.” So get into the habit of eating healthy and before you know it you won’t crave all that junk and hopefully it won’t even taste good to you anymore!
